This Wabi Women episode is all about purpose. When it comes to purpose, many cultures clearly recognize its importance. The Japanese , for example, even have a specific word for this, and it’s called Ikigai, roughly translated as ones purpose, or “reason for being”. According to the Japanese, everyone has a hidden Ikigai and often it requires some deep soul searching to find it. For some this “purpose “searching may not fully happen úntil Midlife when we are wise enough to understand ourselves.
In this Wabi Women episode we explore passion. Passion really gets the fire burning, in a personally fulfilling way. This is the juice, the energy that fuels your ideas and creativity. We know, from personal experience, that it is passion that supercharges your new or renewed direction in midlife and beyond.
Episode 40 - POWER RADIO Posted: November 25, 2018 - 58 minutes - 34.1 Mb -
In a culture that values women’s youthful beauty and fertility, many midlife women complain about their invisibility. We do have a choice: we can see ourselves as becoming invisible and less, or we can let go of our fear of change, of that limiting inner voice, to embrace the power of our wise woman, the power of ourselves as elders. In this chapter, midlife is revealed as a time during which, when we have collected all the skills that ordinary people can collect through experiencing exceptional circumstances, the engine—the power of a great midlife advantage—is created. It’s time to recognize our power, as both ordinary and extraordinary women, and as a huge demographic group poised to make a significant difference in this world.
In this episode we hold tight to the idea of being a trapeze artist. To understand Presence, think of those fit svelte women in sequined leotards and nude tights, swinging on the bars, balancing high above the crowds with only an arm or a leg bent to support them.
As they swung back and forth and gained momentum, swinging their legs like a child on a swing set, the trapeze synchronicity started in earnest.
As their hands left one swing, to fly unfettered for a few brief seconds before grasping the approaching bar, they were practicing perfect Presence.
That moment when you let go of the first bar, like the trapeze artists, all that is past, is gone.
By letting go, all your fears are left behind, as you fly unencumbered and free, not yet in the future, but no longer in the past.
In the space before grabbing the oncoming swing, you are thinking of only the present. The past is over, the future has not arrived, and you are filled with nothing but the calm of now.
Episode 38 - The Promise Posted: November 4, 2018 - 58 minutes - 35.3 Mb -
Making promises to those we love is something midlife women do constantly. We mostly make promises to please others. Yet many of us have stopped making promises to ourselves, perhaps knowing we will probably break those promises, choosing others’ desires over our own. In this episode, listeners make a new promise to themselves and keep it. Their pledge could be as basic as promising to listen to our radio shows, and doing all the activities for no one but themselves. Keeping our promises starts a fundamental shift in our self-confidence.
Episode 37 - The Pillar of Power Posted: October 28, 2018 - 58 minutes - 35.9 Mb -
Our question is: Who have you become?
Western culture mostly looks outward, yet peace in midlife cannot come from this orientation. It can only be built on deep contentment and an acceptance that we will not find peace in our titles, possessions, or the roles we play at work and at home. When we begin in earnest to change our self-perspective, the world’s view of us as women also transforms. We stop being invisible and color back in our lives, to be seen again. Leigh and Crystal share their view that the growing number of midlife western women recreating themselves will also create changes in pro-social action, as the Dalai Lama suggests, peacefully saving the world.
Today's show is all about friendship and why our friends make us live longer and happier lives. Today is the best time to learn the fascinating science behind how longevity make our midlife minds perform better. When it comes to friendship we are only just starting to understand the deep and mysterious effects social interactions play on our brain! Having at least one solid friendship helps build up resistance to mental decline and disease. So listen up to this show all about our friendships.
Episode 35 - Wabi Women- Now or Never-Episode 35- Just Push Play on Midlife Posted: August 23, 2018 - 58 minutes - 34.9 Mb -
There is no next time, sometimes it is now or never. Wabi Women believe our midlife is that time of Now or never. Sometimes things go right, sometimes they go off the rails, either way, this episode of Wabi Women will nudge you to make change, big or small. It is never too late. Human beings mistakenly think that at a certain point, they are finished, yet, they are really continual beings in progress. People can and do continually change and these changes, now in Midlife, can actually bring about the best in us.
Episode 34 - Wabi Women- Purpose- Episode 34- Just Push Play on Midlife Posted: August 16, 2018 - 58 minutes - 35.5 Mb -
This episode is all about your Midlife Mission. Finding your purpose can become a great tool in making your Midlife matter. Today we re examine something called Ikigai. Culturally it’s not an encouraged thing to take a risk or many risks to be vulnerable at this age and stage of our lives. Most of the messages are about slowing down, reducing or eliminating risks and essentially fading away. Wabi Women challenge this and encourage each other to look for the adventure and beauty that is waiting to be discovered in this later chapter of life.
Episode 33 - Wabi Women- Smile- Episode 33- Just Push Play on Midlife Posted: August 9, 2018 - 58 minutes - 35.5 Mb -
Each time you smile you throw a little party for your brain! The act of smiling is scientifically proven to help achieve longevity and mental happiness. On Wabi Women we look at the science today behind the smile, and what message is being sent to our brains when we smile. Did you know there are dozens of different smiles, each with a different message our brain interprets? We have a great conversation about the Smile Experiment, and our Smile Scorecard, something our brain does each and every day calculating how often we smile, and to whom we smile.
Its all fodder for a longer life with more life in it.
